Enjoyed multiple track day events in Oct and Dec at Motor Sport Ranch in Cresson, TX. I'm hooked...may even get a dedicated track car so I don't tear up my daily driver (S4 above). Seeing the many high performance cars being utilized for tracking was an absolute treat. I always take a camera everywhere I go, so here are photos of the cars at those events... (to see these photos in better/larger resolution, I have them in a set on Flickr: !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! ).

This is awesome, any other cool track car/trailer rig combinations? I saw the frontier and the gtr further down.

Wow, that's a pretty wide array of cars competing. What cars (with license plates) are the fastest?

Most truck/trailer combos were American diesel pickups pulling something unrelated.

It is less about the car and more about the driver. For example, in my 2013 Audi S4, I passed a Nissan GTR twice, a 2011 Porsche Turbo S twice, several Corvettes, several late model M3s, Mits EVO, several Ferrari's, etc... Yet, I got passed by a VW R32, 2006 Mustang GT, Mits EVO, etc...

If you look at the MSR track map, you'll see one half has tighter curves and the other half broader curves and more straights. In the hands of well-trained drivers, smaller and shorter wheelbase cars are superior, whereas the higher HP cars are superior on the half with the straights/broader turns.

I realize that doesn't exactly answer your question, and honestly, I don't really know the answer. We'd need a Texas Stig to drive 'em to see which is best.

yes, it's always fun to see what you can pass and what can pass you. What's the plan for your 2014 season?

The 2 day event in Dec was organized by DriversEdge, which puts an instructor in your car for 8 track session. I learned soooo much from that. I will probably do another DE event. The Texas Audi club (Audi Club Lone Star) is planning a number of track events throughout the state, so I'll participate in those as much as possible. If I truly have the bug, I'll probably pick up a 2008 Audi TT and turn it into a dedicated track car.

Are their any used Audi TT available from a common series already prepared?

I would need to equip the TT for tracking (suspension, brakes, seats, tires). The current TTRS is ready for tracking, but that's a diff price category.

For my car, I made mods to prepare it for tracking: brake fluid, pads, rotors; tires, ECU tune, rotary forged rims, air intake...plus I ordered the car with sport differential and adjustable suspension because I knew I would try tracking it. Now that I've had 10 sessions on the track, I better understand the impact to consumables and car wear-and-tear. I'll continue to track the S4 throughout 2014 and will make a decision for 2015 for dedicated car. Financially, timing couldn't be worse as that's when my oldest kid starts college.
